Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous experience in Ayurveda, Yoga or meditation?

No. Most Inner Civilisations retreats are designed to be accessible to beginners as well as people who already have experience. Where a particular retreat requires previous experience, this will be clearly stated on its individual retreat page.

What is normally included in the retreat price?

This varies by retreat. Depending on the programme, the price may include accommodation, meals, Yoga and breathwork sessions, meditation, Ayurvedic workshops, practical experiences, group activities, resources and selected individual sessions. Every retreat page will provide a clear list of exactly what is included before you book.

Are Ayurveda consultations included?

Selected retreats may include a personal Ayurveda consultation or individual guidance. On other retreats this may be optional or available separately. Please check the individual retreat programme for details.

Is Marma Therapy included?

Some retreats may include Marma Therapy or offer individual Marma appointments. Because programme length, practitioner availability and group size vary, Marma is not automatically included in every retreat. The individual retreat page will state what is available.

Will we have activities all day?

No. We intentionally avoid filling every hour. Retreats combine structured sessions with time for rest, nature, reflection and personal space. Activities also vary from day to day.

Will there be Ayurvedic cooking or food preparation?

Selected retreats may include practical Ayurvedic food experiences such as preparing simple dishes, exploring spices and tastes, herbal drinks or understanding seasonal food choices. These experiences will be listed in the specific retreat programme.

Is the food vegetarian?

Our retreat menus are generally centred around nourishing vegetarian food, with an emphasis on simple, wholesome and seasonally appropriate meals. Exact menus and dietary arrangements vary by location and retreat.

Can you accommodate allergies or dietary requirements?

We will ask about dietary requirements before the retreat and will work with the venue/catering team where reasonably possible. Serious allergies or complex dietary needs should be discussed with us before booking so that we can confirm whether they can be safely accommodated.

What kind of accommodation is provided?

Accommodation varies according to the retreat and destination. It may include private rooms, shared rooms or different room categories. Photographs, room options and any additional charges will be clearly shown on the individual retreat page.

Can I attend on my own?

Absolutely. Many people attend retreats individually. The programme creates opportunities for meaningful connection while also respecting personal space and time alone.

How many people usually attend?

We prefer relatively small groups so the experience remains personal and supportive. Capacity will vary according to the retreat venue and programme and will be stated on the individual retreat page.

How physically demanding are the retreats?

This depends on the programme. Most practices are intended to be accessible and adaptable, but some retreats may involve walking, Yoga or outdoor activities. Relevant physical requirements will be explained before booking.

What if I have a health condition or take medication?

Please tell us about relevant health conditions, injuries, pregnancy, medications or other considerations requested during registration. A retreat does not replace medical care, and we may recommend speaking with your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional where necessary. Please do not stop or alter prescribed medication because of retreat activities or Ayurvedic discussion.

Are the retreats a form of medical treatment?

No. Inner Civilisations retreats are primarily educational, experiential and wellbeing programmes. Ayurveda consultations or Marma sessions, where offered, have their own appropriate professional scope and do not replace necessary medical diagnosis or treatment.

Do I have to participate in every activity?

Generally, no. We encourage participation because the programme has been designed as a journey, but we also respect individual needs, energy and personal boundaries. Any essential programme requirements will be explained beforehand.

Will there be silence or digital-detox periods?

Some retreats may include periods of silence, reduced phone use or invitations to step away from digital stimulation. These will normally be introduced as part of the retreat experience and clearly explained to participants.

Can couples or friends attend together?

Yes, subject to availability. Room arrangements and pricing may vary, so please check the individual retreat information.

Can I bring children?

Unless specifically advertised as a family retreat, our retreats are designed for adults. Any age requirements will be stated on the booking page.

What is not normally included?

Unless specifically stated otherwise, travel to and from the retreat, flights, travel insurance, personal purchases and optional treatments/activities are normally separate. Always refer to the individual retreat's Included / Not Included section.

Do you offer payment plans?

Payment arrangements may vary according to the price, destination and timing of each retreat. Where instalment options are available, they will be shown on the individual retreat booking page.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Cancellation terms can differ between retreats because venues, accommodation and international programmes may have different non-refundable commitments. The applicable cancellation/refund policy is displayed clearly before payment on each retreat's booking page.

What happens if Inner Civilisations has to cancel a retreat?

The specific booking terms for each retreat explain the arrangements that apply if the organiser cancels or materially changes the programme. Participants are also encouraged to obtain appropriate travel insurance for retreats involving travel or accommodation.

Where are your retreats held?

We offer experiences in inspiring locations in the UK and internationally. Brighton & Sussex is part of our developing UK base, with future destinations potentially including Portugal, Spain and India. Only confirmed programmes are presented as bookable retreats.

How do I know when a new retreat is announced?
